Newbie Author Challenge: Currently Reading

I am currently reading three books, The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, Bad People by Craig Wallwork, and Solitude by Dean M. Cole. (Amazon Associate Links)

SPOILERS AHEAD.

The Witching Hour is an immense undertaking, and I am not even half-way through. It is a slow unfolding of the story of a family of witches, with a lot of background. It is usually quite fascinating, but some readers may be turned off by the incest. Anne Rice is quite the story-teller, quite enamoured with New Orleans, as usual. The backstory of the family is presented as a “file” that one of the main characters is reading, and it IS interesting, but I am quite wishing for them to get back to the main storyline.

Bad People seems more like the type of book I normally read, but I have not delved very much into it yet. There are some missing kids. And a retired police-officer-turned-crime writer. And a detective trying not to feel too bad about never solving the case. I’m looking forward to finishing it.

Solitude. WOW. Solitude is an action book. So, where I’m at right now…as far as I know, there are only 2 living humans. One of them is on the Earth. The other is on the International Space Station. This one hasn’t quite won me over yet. It’s almost like there is TOO much action. I am definitely enthralled by the concept, but some of the description is a bit too technical for my personal tastes. And I don’t care for the main male character yet. But at least it’s not a math book. We’ll see how it goes.

What are you reading?

The dog we do have at the moment, a beautiful mutt of pointer, husky, and border collie, is one of the sweetest creatures to grace this planet. I am busy trying to get better at teaching and writing.
